A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a van on Durham Street at Cedar Street this afternoon.

Staff Sgt. Marc Brunette told Sudbury.com that he does not currently know what the extent of the woman's injuries, although he said he does not believe that they're life-threatening.

He said Greater Sudbury Police were alerted to the collision at 1:52 p.m.

Derek Young witnessed the aftermath of the collision and posted this on Facebook.

"A little shaken up ... I live downtown and my mother works downtown," Young wrote. "On my way back from lunch, a lady was hit by a van outside the Royal Bank on Durham. Police, and EMS on site.

"Hearing the cries and screams of a grown woman given these circumstances is something you never want to hear. These people are mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. Think about it. Think even harder when downtown, a huge outdoor workplace and shopping centre and an area that should be pedestrian friendly."
