Police continue spot checks

Greater Sudbury Police officers continued holiday-season spot checks this past weekend, stopping 733 vehicles. Of those, 62 drivers were given roadside tests to determine their blood-alcohol content.

Of those, 62 drivers were given roadside tests to determine their blood-alcohol content. Three drivers were arrested and charged with blowing over the legal limit and another two were charged with impaired driving during traffic stops.

Seven people were issued 12-hour suspensions while four novice were also caught with a blood alcohol level above zero, resulting in a 30-day licence suspension. Two liquor licence charges and 12 Highway Traffic Act charges were also laid.

Since Nov. 17, police have stopped 4,314 vehicles and gave 53 12-hour suspensions, 28 90-day suspensions and have charged 12 novice drivers for having alcohol in their system.
