The seventh annual (Greater Sudbury) Police Cup was held earlier this month from Jan. 15 – 17 with five championship games being held at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
Approximately 500 local youth/players from the Sudbury Playground Hockey League participated with entertaining hockey being played.
Each year the Police Cup provides an excellent venue for members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service to interact with youth and make a positive influence.
The “Play it Forward” food drive challenge began in 2015 where participating teams competed against each other off the ice by trying to donate the most non-perishable food.
The challenge serves two purposes; firstly, it is an opportunity to restock food bank shelves after the Christmas season and teaches the importance of giving back to our community.
This year Police Cup participants raised approximately 3,800 pounds of non-perishable food and also donated $500 cash to the Sudbury Food Bank.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service would like to thank all players and all community partners who donated to this successful event.
