Greater Sudbury Police Service's traffic management unit and rural squad worked together with Ontario Provincial Police on local snowmobile trails. Five snow vehicles were stopped Jan. 19 in the Hanmer area without valid trail permits. The operators of the vehicles were charged accordingly.

While on patrol, officers were dispatched to Burwash Lake, north of Lake Wanapitei, where an 85-year-old man required medical assistance. Police and emergency medics trekked to the remote camp, where the man was in distress. He was taken to Health Sciences North for medical care.

Police remind the public to take precautions when travelling to remote locations. Satellite phones or messaging systems can save lives.
