Oct. 6 to 9 will mark the launch of Operation Impact, a national campaign to make Canada's roads the safest in the world.

The weekend is a special police initiative designed to educate the public on safe driving practises. The focus will be on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk inlcuding seat belt use, impaired driving, and aggressive driving.

In Greater Sudbury, since 2002 there have been six alcohol related deaths and 133 alcohol related injuries.

In support of Operation Impact, the Greater Sudbury Police Service will be conducting RIDE checks and zero tolerance enforcement throughout the holiday weekend.

The initiative has been specifically chosen for this long weekend as more people are travelling and traffic crashed are more frequent.
