Police on their way?

Sudbury Police Chief Ian Davidson doesn?t expect the police service to hire 15 new officers any time soon, but he would like the province to commit to providing funding so they can be hired early next spring.

The McGuinty Liberals announced last year they are committed to hiring 1,000 front-line officers across Ontario.

The government has also committed to paying at least 50 percent of the costs involved in that hiring.

Davidson has stated the service needs at least 15 front-line officers sooner than later.

Davidson told the board he?s met directly with Monty Kwinter, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, to speak about hiring new officers.

Kwinter again confirmed the government remains committed to its promise and he expects good news for police boards across Ontario following the
spring budget, said Davidson.
