Greater Sudbury Police say they caught a driver doing 162 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on local roads, more than double the speed limit.
The driver was charged with both dangerous driving and impaired driving, which both come with a minimum $1,000 fine and a one-year driving prohibition, as well as stunt driving and cannabis readily available.
The suspect also received a 90-day licence suspension and their vehicle was immediately impounded, said police in a Sunday Facebook post.
Upon conviction, impaired driving can result in a maximum of five years in jail, while dangerous operation can result in up to 14 years in jail.
“This reckless disregard for the lives and safety of others is totally unacceptable,” the post said.
“We are happy this driver was immediately removed from our roads. We would like to take a moment to recognize the dedication and commitment of our officers who continue to proactively patrol our local roadways, locating and stopping these individuals who put community safety at risk and ensuring these individuals are held accountable for their criminal acts.”
