OPP release name of victim in fatal Hwy 17 crash

Updated Dec. 19 at 10:42 a.m.: The Sudbury OPP have released the name of the person who died in a fatal crash on Highway 17 on Dec. 16.

Carole Mantha, 53, lost her life in a head-on collision between Wahnapitae and Markstay on Dec. 16. The collision occurred around 3:20 p.m. just west of Kukagami Lake Road in the Markstay-Warren. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other car was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police have not released information on the cause of the crash or whether charges will be laid.

The scene was attended by members of the Sudbury OPP and Technical Collision Investigations (TCI) as well as the Markstay-Warren Fire Department, the Greater Sudbury Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
