Police stop vehicle, find drugs

Two men are facing multiple charges after Greater Sudbury Police stopped an older-model pickup truck Aug. 17 at around 5:30 p.m. because it was “operating in a suspicious fashion.”

Police had originally observed the vehicle in the area of Minto at Brady Street. Further investigation revealed that the licence plates on the vehicle were stolen.

The vehicle was stopped by police in the area of Notre Dame Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was placed under arrest without incident.

The passenger was also arrested, but police say he began to fidget with something in his waistband and started to struggle.

Once officers gained control of this man, they seized 19 grams of cocaine and one gram of crack cocaine. The street value of these drugs exceeds $2,000.

The driver has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and 12 Highway Traffic Act infractions.

The passenger has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and assaulting police with the intent to resist arrest.

Both suspects were due to appear in bail court Aug. 18.
