Greater Sudbury Police officers were called to the Park Hotel early last May after it was reported a man had shot several bullets at another man.

Almost one year to the day after he was charged, a local man's preliminary hearing on a charge of attempted murder is underway at the Sudbury courthouse.

Early last May, Joseph Hallam, 61, was arrested without incident and charged with attempted murder and several weapons offences at a residence on King Street, one street over from the Park Hotel, where it's alleged Hallam shot several bullets at a man around 11:30 am.

A patron inside the bar called 911 and officers were on the scene within a couple of minutes and more than 20 cruisers and 30 officers surrounded the bar and adjacent buildings for 90 minutes following the incident.

The victim is Jason Tessier, 33, who sustained non life-threatening injuries after being hit once in the forearm and a second time in the ankle, said Zimmerman.

Tessier took the stand at the preliminary hearing Monday.

Justice William Fitzgerald ordered a ban on publication of all evidence presented at the preliminary hearing.

Several witnesses provided key information leading to a quick arrest by Greater Sudbury Police.
Hallam surrendered to police without incident.

The police investigation revealed there were between 10 and 15 other patrons inside the bar when the shooting took place, say police.

Several witnesses said the shooting took place inside the main bar area of the Park Hotel.

No trial date has been set in this matter.
