Every spring and summer, countless property owners are deceived into spending money on needless home repairs or renovations by very sly con artists, say police.

Usually uninvited, ?door-to-door? salespeople offer such services as driveway sealing, roof repairs or painting.

The con artists will sometimes use high pressure sales pitches to target the elderly.

Consumers often call complaining about losing money on shoddy or incomplete renovations and many find themselves off guard or pressured to buy a product or service they don?t need.

?Protecting our elderly homeowners is not only a police responsibility but requires the community as a whole to be concerned and react when required,? says OPP Det.-Superintendent Rick Kotwa, in a press release.
