Sheguiandah shooting is now a murder

An arrest warrant for second-degree murder has been issued for a 20-year-old Hamilton man following a June 24 shooting that left a man dead.**

The shooting occurred Friday night just before midnight. At the time, the victim was still alive, while the suspect remained at large.

The suspect remains at large, but the Manitoulin OPP detachment issued a news release today (June 27) that the victim died in hospital. The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Cheyenne Malcom Roy of Sheguiandah First Nation.Police continue to try to locate the man they allege is responsible for the shooting, a 20-year-old Hamilton man.** He is described as standing between 5-8 and 5-10 with a slim build, dark complexion and long dreadlocked hair.

“Investigators believe this was a targeted incident and there is no public safety risk,” OPP said in a news release.

Police warned the public not to approach the man, but to call 911 or a local police service.

“The accused is encouraged to turn himself in to police,” the OPP said.

The investigation is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) involving members of the UCCM Police, the Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit, the North East Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the OPP Regional Support Team (RST).Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or your nearest police service.
