While Sudbury stores were closed on Dec. 26, some early morning bandits made up their own Boxing Day shopping rules.

Greater Sudbury Police say at around 3:30 am on Dec. 26, thieves drove a stolen van through the front window at Mat-Lyn Games on Notre Dame Avenue.

Police arrived quickly and saw the get-a-way vehicle take-off.

Officers followed the van through the back streets of the Flour Mill area where it was abandoned.

The thieves fled and police gave chase on foot but the robbers managed to escape.

The authorities say damage to the building at 450 Notre Dame Ave. is around $20,000. A list of items taken from the store was not available at press time but one report indicates the haul included several Sony PlayStation 2 units.

Police ask anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers at 675-TIPS (8477).

This is the second time in a couple of weeks the video game store has been the target of bandits.
