Smile for the camera: Charges laid in Albert Street weapons complaint

Two of the five taken into custody charged, while a third was arrested on an outstanding warrant

Greater Sudbury Police have laid charges against two of the five people taken into custody at an Albert Street home yesterday.

On March 23 at about 10 a.m., GSPS officers and the tactical unit responded to a weapons complaint at a home on Albert Street.

Not long after police set up a perimeter, the five people holed up in the house — four men and one woman — exited the building. GSPS said officers took them into custody and then searched the apartment, finding two firearms in the process.

The police service's BEAR Unit (Break Enter and Robbery) obtained and executed a search warrant, turning up additional firearms.

Two of the five people taken into custody have now been charged, while a third person was arrested on two outstanding warrants.

A 24-year old man from Greater Sudbury has been charged with possession of weapons for dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of a schedule II substance.

A 20-year-old woman from Greater Sudbury has been charged with breach of recognizance.

Those charged will appear in bail court today.
