A young con artist who preyed on senior citizens for his home renovation and snow removal scams was given a 30-day jail stint and ordered to repay $8,140 to his victims.

Matthew St.Aubin, 23, pleaded guilty to several counts of fraud under $5,000. Court heard St. Aubin took deposit cheques for numerous clients, many of them senior citizens, promising to conduct certain renovations.

After taking the cheques, he would not return to do any work and the homeowners would try in vain to track him down. St. Aubin also admitted to ripping off three seniors within a two-week period in December of last year by promising to conduct snow removal from their driveway for the entire winter.

Once he collected the deposit cheques totalling $500 and removing snow from the driveways of the three home owners on the day he collected the cheques, St. Aubin again never returned to do any more work. The seniors could not track him down after calling numerous phone numbers he?d left with them.
