Spouses accused of assaulting each other in Cartier altercation

In a separate case, a 36-year-old Sudburian is also charged in a domestic assault incident south of Cartier

Two people have been charged with spousal assault after an altercation in Cartier Oct. 12 in which a couple allegedly assaulted each other.

The Nipissing West OPP responded to the domestic dispute at a Cartier residence at 6:25 p.m. that evening.

The officers’ investigation revealed both parties had assaulted one another, resulting in minor injuries. They were subsequently arrested and charged.

A 21-year-old from Cartier was charged with assault-spousal. A 20-year-old from Sudbury was also charged with assault with a weapon - spousal.

Both accused were released on an Undertaking and are scheduled to appear in Sudbury court Nov. 13.

The Nipissing West OPP also laid charges in a separate domestic dispute in Cascaden Township (south of Cartier) Oct. 12.

Officers responded to the incident at 1:40 a.m. that morning.

The accused, a 36-year-old from Sudbury, was charged with:

  • Assault - Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC;
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking (two counts), contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC; and
  • Mischief - Domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.

The accused in this case is scheduled to appear in Sudbury court Nov. 27.
