Greater Sudbury Police Service had to lock down two area elementary schools Wednesday afternoon following a complaint about an elderly man pointing a weapon in an area close to both schools.

Sgt. Wayne Foster said police received a call at 2:40 pm about a gun being pointed in an area not far from St. Denis
Catholic School on Hyland Drive and Wembley Public School on Wembley Drive.

All students at both schools were locked down inside the school while police attended the scene.

?The suspect is an elderly male and we know where he is,? said Foster at 4 pm Tuesday at Northern Life?s news deadline.

?The area has been contained and the tactical unit has been brought in and is negotiating with the suspect.

?No shots were fired and no one has been injured, but obviously we can?t allow for any of the students from either school to be released until the situation has been resolved.?

Neither school is involved in the investigation. Due to the proximity to the situation, children and staff were ordered to remain in both schools for their own safety.

Parents were urged not to go to the area as police have the scene secured, said Foster.
