Stunt driving charges for Alberta man

An Alberta man was charged for stunt driving after Espanola OPP responded to a complaint of a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 in Nairn Township.

On Nov. 26 at around 7:25 p.m., members from the Espanola OPP responded to a traffic complaint about a westbound passenger car being operated at a high rate of speed on Highway 17.

The westbound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result was stopped for “Stunt Driving”.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Sherwood Park, Alberta, was charged with race a motor vehicle – excessive speed, and speeding.

The accused driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on Jan. 12.

Every person convicted of Race a Motor Vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, in addition to his or her driver’s licence being suspended.
