Sturgeon Falls traffic stop leads to drug, weapons arrests

A late-night traffic stop in Sturgeon Falls led to the arrest of three people this week.

On Dec. 21 at 12:14 a.m., West Nipissing Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls.

The stop led to the discovery of suspected cocaine, as well as a firearm, the OPP report.

“A search of the vehicle located a firearm and drugs suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value over $12,000,” the news release states.

The trio each face one charge of possession of controlled substance (cocaine), unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, occupying a vehicle with a prohibited or restricted firearm and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.

Charged is a 31-year-old Ottawa resident, a 33-year-old Brampton resident and a 43-year-old M’Chigeeng First Nation resident.

All three accused were held for bail court and were scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 22 in North Bay.
