Sudburian faces impaired charges after roll-over in Noëlville area

OPP of the area has been kept busy with several impaired driving incidents over the last few weeks. 

A 36-year-old Sudbury woman is facing several impaired driving charges after being involved in a single-vehicle roll-over collision Feb. 29.

The Nipissing West (Noëlville) Detachment responded to the single-vehicle roll-over collision on Green Bay Road in the Municipality of French River at 6:10 a.m. that day. 

An investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol. She subsequently failed a roadside screening test.

Further investigation revealed the driver was unlicensed and the vehicle was not insured, police said. A search of the vehicle yielded an undisclosed amount of unmarked cigarettes.

She has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired -Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC; 
  • Drive Motor Vehicle - no licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); 
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) HTA; 
  • Possess Unmarked Fine Cut Tobacco For Sale, contrary to section 29(1) of the Tobacco Tax Act; and 
  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused was released on a promise to appear in court in Sudbury April 1.

On March 7, a 66-year-old Noëlville man was charged with impaired driving after going through a RIDE check.

At around 9:30 p.m., members of the Nipissing West (Noëlville) Detachment of the OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks on St. David Street in Noëlville.  

Officers approached a vehicle at the spot check and detected the odour of alcohol coming from the driver's breath. 

The driver subsequently failed a breath alcohol screening test.

The man was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

He was released on a promise to appear in court in Sudbury April 8.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old Webbwood man has been charged with impaired driving offences after being stopped by the Espanola OPP.

The man was stopped at around 4:40 a.m. March 7 on Barber Street.

Officers suspected that the driver was impaired by drugs. The driver was transported to the Espanola OPP Detachment for examination by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

The accused with charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration contrary to section 320.14(1)(c) of the Criminal Code (CC), and 
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) CC.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Espanola on April 6.
