Sudbury man among 4 arrested in Wiki drug bust

Four people, including a Sudbury man, have been arrested and charged with drug and weapons-related offences after a search warrant was executed in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island.

Shortly after 5 p.m. April 17, a search warrant was conducted at a residence on Kaboni Road.

The search was conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), North East Region Canine Unit, Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS), and the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police (UCCM Police).

Police arrested four people at the residence and located more than 35 grams of suspected fentanyl, more than three grams of suspected cocaine and more than three grams of suspected crack cocaine. 

Police also located firearms, ammunition and more than $12,000 in Canadian currency.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Sudbury man has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime more than $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order - ten counts

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay Bail Court April 19.

A 26-year-old woman from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime more than $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory May 28.

A 41-year-old man from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime more than $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay Bail Court on April 19. 

A 29-year-old woman from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime more than $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on May 28.
