A resident of Greater Sudbury was killed in a single-snowmobile collision near Wahnapitae Saturday, the details of which, remain under investigation.

At 5:06 p.m. on Jan. 11, the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) received a call about a single-snowmobile collision on trail #83 near the North end of Kukagami Road.

Police responded alongside emergency services a short while later, through the use of all-terrain vehicles and a side-by-side.

The 61-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

GSPS Staff Sgt. Peter Orsino said the deceased is believed to have been travelling at the tail-end of a large group at the time of the crash.

These trails are part of the Sudbury trail system he said, and as such, are regularly groomed for public use.

The Traffic Management Unit is continuing their investigation into what caused the driver to leave the trail and what he may have struck in the process.
