Sudbury police keep busy

Police gathered information from witnesses indicating a male had stabbed a female acquaintance with a kitchen knife after a dispute in the building.

Police located the female a short distance from the building.

She had suffered a laceration to her neck and was taken to St. Joseph's Health Centre, where she was treated and released.

The male suspect was then located in the building and arrested. Charged with assault with a weapon is John Judge, 37, of 98 Beech St.

A routine traffic stop by Greater Sudbury Police resulted in the seizure of one-and-a-half pounds of marijuana and charges against two Sudbury people.

At about 1:50 am on March 30, officers stopped a suspicious vehicle with two occupants on Lorne street.

A search of the vehicle uncovered the marijuana in a backpack.

The drugs have a street value of about $8,000.

Charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking are Daniel Henri Leblanc, 23, of Sudbury and Shannon Phillips, 21, of Sudbury.

On March 30, two officers conducted speed studies on Lasalle Blvd., Lorne St., Paris St. by the hospital and Elm St.

The enforcement transpired during the day and resulted in numerous charges.

18 people were charged with speeding on Lorne St., 26 people were charged with speeding on Lasalle Blvd., 14 people were charged with speeding in the hospital zone on Paris St., with two being charged with speeding in excess of 30 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limit of 40 km/h and five people were charged with speeding on Elm St.

The police is asking for help from the community to identify the person/persons responsible for graffiti that has been located on numerous properties around Sudbury, including the Rainbow Outlet Centre, Ellis Pharmacy, Adamsdale Public School, Sudbury transit Depot, as well as several Minnow Lake properties, postal boxes and bus shelters throughout the city.

The culprits graffiti appears to be Â?MLCÂ?, which police believe stands for Minnow Lake Crew. Several other signatures have also been associated with the group including: Â?705 Substance abuseÂ?, Â?705 ComatosÂ?, and Â?705 ShastaÂ?.

The Traffic Management Unit of the Sudbury Greater Police Service has received complaints of pedestrians crossing Ramsey Lake Road by Laurentian Hospital.

The road is busy and can be hazardous for pedestrians.

Police remind people it's a dangerous practice.

Traffic may have their view obstructed by a vehicle stopping for you, which may result in a serious collision.

The public is reminded to cross the road at the intersection.

The fine for a pedestrian failing to use a crosswalk is $50.
