A 24-year-old man accused of robbery made an unsuccessful attempt to flee on foot after Greater Sudbury Police stopped his vehicle Sunday night.

Police say they stopped the man’s vehicle in the Mountain Street area at around 10:15 p.m. Oct. 16. The suspect was wanted for a violent Oct. 7 robbery (see below for a description of that incident).

Once the vehicle was stopped, the suspect attempted to flee officers, but he was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Upon searching the man, officers located a quantity of illicit substances believed to be Methamphetamine and Fentanyl.

The suspect was charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery Unauthorized Use of Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order (six counts)
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance (two counts)

The man was to attend bail court today (Oct. 17).

Regarding the Oct. 7 robbery, police say that shortly after 4 a.m. on that date, the suspect was travelling in a vehicle with another man, when he displayed what was described as a handgun.

He then forced the other man out of the vehicle, physically assaulted him, and stole money and other personal items.

The robbery victim, a 48-year-old man, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. This is believed to be a targeted incident, as the two individuals know each other.
