Teen, quad, break through ice on Whitewater Lake

A 16-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after falling through the ice on Whitewater Lake in Azilda. Greater Sudbury police say the teen was driving a quad about 200 meters from the north shoreline near Lakeview St. when the quad broke through the ice.

Greater Sudbury police say the teen was driving a quad about 200 meters from the north shoreline near Lakeview St. when the quad broke through the ice. The boy managed to pull himslef from the water and find help.

The boy didn't sustain any serious injuries and the quad was recovered before it was fully submerged.

Police are reminding the public that becusae of the mild winter, ice conditions are not as safe as the normally would be in January. Open water has been reported on some lakes and rivers in the city.
