Two teenagers have been charged with attempted murder after an 81-year-old man was stabbed three times in Fielding Park in Lively Thursday evening.

At around 2:30 pm, the victim was walking alone along a trail in Fielding Park when he was approached by an 18-year-old man, who stabbed him once in the stomach, causing a serious injury.

The man left the victim, but returned a short time later demanding the victim's wallet while holding a knife to his neck, say police.

The elderly victim received a superficial injury to his neck in the process of turning over his wallet, say police.

The man and his 18-year-old female accomplice then fled the area.

The victim attempted to make his way back to his vehicle and was met by two hikers who assisted him to their vehicle and drove him to hospital, where he underwent surgery to repair his injuries, say police.

The victim remains in hospital and is listed in stable condition with non life-threatening injuries.

After police received descriptions of the two suspects, the investigation revealed they had been in possession of a stolen vehicle from the Kitchener area.

Meanwhile, a police helicopter, the canine unit and members of the Greater Sudbury Police tactical unit were called to the area near Fielding Park and a full-fledged manhunt took place over several hours Thursday afternoon.

The pair were caught when an officer with the Espanola Police Service was able to identify them as passengers on a Greyhound bus passing through Espanola heading for western Canada.

Officers from Espanola, the OPP and Greater Sudbury Police arrested the two suspects without incident.

Charged with attempted murder, robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of stolen property over $5,000, breaching a court order and obstructing justice is David Timothy Jackson, 18, of no fixed address.
