A Sudbury man with dozens of convictions for stealing was given a one-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to ripping off three Sudbury retail stores between June and December of last year.

Gary Godin, 38, admitted he stole an answering machine last June, clothes in July and several packages of meat in December.

After the July theft, he was ordered by the court not attend any retail outlet unless accompanied by his surety for bail. Godin has been in custody since Dec. 18.

Fitzgerald gave the accused two days credit for every day served and imposed an additional nine-month jail sentence.
