Drivers on The Kingsway might have been startled to see Greater Sudbury Police officers in full combat gear Tuesday afternoon on a hill across the street from Betty Boop's Diner.

Members of the tactical squad were conducting training exercises in an abandoned apartment building that was damaged by fire last summer. The building is scheduled to be torn down soon.

“Today we're doing some entries with explosives,” said Sgt. Joe Williams.

“That's why we have a (police training exercise) sign and we're containing the area, just to keep people safe. We've notified the occupants in the immediate area that we're going to be some noises. The building is  perfect for us because the interior is still relatively intact.”
