Beaton Classic draws 150 athletes

A few years removed from his aspirations of competing with the Canadian triathlon elite, Green is enjoying his re-immersion into the scene, even moreso with the motivation of four-year old son. Hudson, at his side, with the two finishing the race hand in hand.
"It's no secret that I've struggled with my weight the past three years," said Green. "But it's coming down now, slowly, and I've set a couple of goals for some fun races I'd like to do in the next couple of years."
On the ladies side, former Cambrian cross-country standout Amanda Kosmerly (2:25:25) survived a frantic push by Sara McIlraith (2:25:53) through the run, breaking the line just 18 seconds ahead of the 2012 female champion.
Kosmerly had a slight edge after the swim, increased it to almost four minutes over the swim and paddled to an almost dead-even split with McIlraith before tackling the run. With the latter making up more than three minutes on the closing leg of the quadrathlon, Kosmerly had built up just enough cushion to hold on for the crown.
Laurentian cross-country runner Emily Marcolini (2:29:16) and race veteran Tamara Flannigan (2:45:04) rounded out the ladies field, with a total of 13 men completing the gruelling challenge.
The overall best time in the various groupings of teams came courtesy of Beaton Up! (Jack Kosmerly, James Larmer, John Larmer, Derek Reid), with the quartet racing through in 2:01:51, just over three minutes ahead of L.N.O.P. (Serge Loiselle, Mike Nawalaniec, Brian O'Neil, Liam Passi) in 2:05:10.
