A couple of years ago, Toronto Argonauts'
offensive lineman Jude St. John was involved in a horrific car
accident that almost killed him and left him with two broken
legs.
St. John persevered through sheer will and
his Christian faith. He made a comeback, and last November
helped the Argos win the 2004 Grey Cup with a 27-19 win over
the B.C. Lions in Ottawa.
Now, St. John is coming to Sudbury as part of
the Super Bowl weekend Breakfast of Champions at Perkins Family
Restaurant.
He will speak at Perkins on Saturday, Feb. 5
at 8:30 am.
Tickets are $15, and include an
all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, the inspiring words of St.
John, photograph and autograph session and prize
giveaways.
He will speak about passion in the game and
compassion in life.
Pastor Eric McGrath of the Lively Baptist
Church was instrumental in bringing St. John to the Nickel
City, and he believes it will be a worthwhile event to attend
for those in need of a spiritual uplift.
"Because of the traumas he has been through,
I thought he would be a great encouragement to anyone who has
been through, or is going through, a trauma in life and
wondering if there's any hope to it," said McGrath. "He's
coming up Friday (Feb. 4) and he's going to a Sudbury Wolves
game, and then he will be at Perkins on Saturday to speak and
sign autographs."
Along with the inspirational words of St.
John, people attending will have a chance at a win tickets to
Argos games, Wolves tickets, $25 gift certificates from
Perkins, hats from King Sportswear and a dozen roses from
Forget-me-not Flowers in Lively.
Interested people can buy tickets at the
Cornerstone Christian Bookstore, CJTK Radio station or by
calling McGrath at 692-5914.
The deadline to buy tickets is Monday, but
McGrath will accept last minute calls for tickets if
available.
