LU's Cassandra Carpenter was named a First Team All-Canadian after her stellar season with the Lady Vees basketball squad.
Carpenter was named a First Team All-Canadian at the CIS championship awards banquet held in Fredericton on Thursday night. This is the second straight year Carpenter has won this honour.

The native of Kanata, Ont. earned this honour by averaging just under a double-double in the OUA East Division this season, scoring an average of 22.6 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game, ranking her first and second in the OUA, respectively. At the CIS level she finished third in scoring and fourth in rebounding.

Despite all the scoring, Carpenter also was among the conference leaders in assists with an average of 3.05 assists per game. Defensively, she recorded a total of 45 steals and 25 blocks.

This award marks the third year in a row she has been honoured at the national level, having been named CIS Rookie of the Year in 2003-04 and a First Team All-Canadian last season.

"Cass has done everything for us this year and has become very consistent" said head coach Mike Clarke in a news release. "I have never coached a tougher player, and she remains amazingly humble and unselfish through all the personal attention and accolades. She is truly deserving of All-Canadian status."

The announcement of this award comes just two weeks after she set the new OUA single-season scoring record at 499 points and became the Laurentian Lady Vees all-time leading scorer, surpassing former teammate Tierney Hoo in only three seasons of play.

Carpenter also repeated as OUA East Player of the Year and OUA First Team All-Star. Earlier in the season she set the CIS free throw shooting record going 21 for 28 in a game at the University of Toronto.
