The Greater Sudbury Cubs return to action Thursday night when they host the first-place Soo Thunderbirds at the Countryside Arena.

Game time is 7:30.

The Cubs trail the first-place T-Birds by eight points and Thursday’s game will be pivotal to  closing the gap.

The Cubs are riding a five-game winning streak where they have outscored their opponents by a count of 24-10. In their last meeting, the Cubs were back-stopped by new goaltender Sasha Gaumond, who was outstanding in a 4-3 overtime victory, said the club in a news release.

It was the first win of the season for the Cubs over the T-Birds in four meetings.

The Cubs will need to key in on a few Soo forwards including Samuel Lake and Brock Santa Maria, who have scored six of the 12 goals scored against the Cubs this season.

Lake has four goals and one assist while Santa Maria has recorded two goals and three helpers versus the Cubs.

The T-Birds are led in scoring by two rookie forwards, Andrew Gibson and Cooper  Foster, who have both recorded 21 points to date.

The Cubs will close-out the week with a road trip to Blind River where they will play the Beavers on Saturday night. The second-place Beavers currently lead the Cubs by two points. The Cubs have outscored the Beavers by a count of 10-3 in their last two matchups.

Saturday’s game can be seen live on hockeytv.com.

Tickets for Thursday night’s home game will be available at the door for only $10 for adults, $5 for juniors and seniors. Children 12 and under are free with an adult.

Facemasks must be worn and proof of double vaccination is required at the entrance to the Countryside Arena.
