There will be a different look to the Lockerby Vikings senior girls volleyball team next year.

Until then, those involved will now have one last trip to OFSAA to add to the memory bank of what has been an incredible journey for a core group of graduating seniors.

Coach Stephen Beausoleil and his team were in Mississauga earlier this week, site of the OFSAA "AA" Girls Volleyball Championships. Alas, there would be no podium finish for the sixth ranked Vikings, but not before the team emptied the tank along the way.

Lockerby kicked off pool play Monday morning with a 25-15, 25-20 win over the Sydenham Golden Eagles from just outside of Kingston, with Lexi Johnson closing things off with a run of 11 serves.

The Vikes improved to 2-0, taking down the tournament host Streetsville Tigers, 25-18, 25-15, before dropping their only match of round robin action with an 18-25, 18-25 setback at the hands of the Nelson Secondary School Lords from Burlington.

Needing a win to secure their berth in the championship playoff round, the locals bested the Westgate C & V.I. Tigers from Thunder Bay 25-23, 25-16, advancing the crew through to the quarter finals later that evening.

Unfortunately, they would come up just a little short, beaten 25-12, 25-13, 25-18 by the Silverthorn Spartans from Etobicoke, the squad that would eventually settle for fourth place.

Playing what is likely their last game in a Lockerby uniform were Mikaela Richter, Becca Hopkins, Sydney Coles, Brooke Smith, Jaclyn Groom, Lexi Johnson, Alexanne Coulombe, Kayla Murray and Kayla Hancharyk, with returnees Veronica Dynes, Taylor Bailey and Bianca Toppazzini all sure to take on more leadership roles next year.
