Fastball league seeks teams

The 2006 season for the Rick McDonald Memorial Men's Fastball League is ready to go. The regular season will open on Monday, May 29 with a doubleheader in Azilda starting at 7 pm.
The 2006 season for the Rick McDonald Memorial Men's Fastball League is ready to go. The regular season will open on Monday, May 29 with a doubleheader in Azilda starting at 7 pm. There will be doubleheaders three times a week in Azilda on Monday nights; Whitefish, Wednesday evenings; and Garson on Thursday nights. All teams will reach the playoffs with the top two finishers in the regular season standings getting a bye to the semifinals while the bottom four play best of three quarter-finals. This year the participating six teams are Garson Hounds (2005 defending league champions); Dog House North Stars; Pickerel River Cardinals; McDowell Athletics; Magnatawan Native Sons and the Whitefish Lake Steelers. The seventh annual Sgt. Rick McDonald Fastball League Tournament takes place on June 16, 17 and 19 in Azilda. The fee is $375 per team (deposit of $100 is required by June 10). First prize is $1,000 and second prize is $500 (prizes may increase with a higher number of teams. There will be a dance Saturday June 17.
