Gators crowned King of the Diamonds

The BAC boys slo-pitch team captured the first-ever Division A SDSSAA championship in school history, just weeks after taking first place in the inaugural NOSSA baseball tournament.

No surprise that the tandem of Tyson Troscinski and Joey Moher were front and centre in helping the team to a semifinal win over the Confederation Chargers before doubling the St. Charles College Cardinals 14-7 in the gold-medal affair.

Both Troscinski and Moher also contributed heavily to the win, though Cole Braney was particularly effective at the plate in the slo-pitch tournament for the Gators.

Bishop Carter head coach Dave Fabiilli also singled out the efforts of pitcher Dylan Martel, taking to the mound in all five games and finishing the day with more strikeouts than walks, a critical stat that often keys success in the slo-pitch game.

St. Charles worked their way through to the final with a win over the Sacré-Coeur Griffons. In other local school news on the diamonds, the St. Denis Tigres took top spot in the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l'Ontario tournament held Monday at the Terry Fox Sports Complex.

Victories over both Rivières des Français (5-1) and Camille Perron (14-1) propelled St. Denis into the playoffs, beating Notre-Dame Hanmer in back-to-back games (7-2 and 6-3) in earning their first-place accolades.

Rivières-des-Français earned bronze while Découverte, Hanmer and St. Joseph (Espanola) finished 1-2-3 in Division B play, and Macdonald-Carter (No. 1), Macdonald-Cartier (No. 2) and Camille Perron did the same in Division C.

The St. Denis winning lineup included Hannah O'Reilly, Paige Helmer, Kayla Murray, Mylène Lefebvre, Julia Roy, Daphne Vigna, Félix Tubin, Sean Roberts, Julien Tubin, Matthew Leon, Louis Mullin-Bélanger, Anthony Rogerson, as well as coaches Danielle Loiselle and Martin Nadeau.
