Gold In Orillia for SYBA U12 Boys

The Sudbury Youth Basketball Association (SYBA) Selects U12 Atom boys’ basketball team convincingly captured the tournament championship at the Orillia Lakers 11th Annual Boys Basketball tournament Feb. 15-17.

The Sudbury Youth Basketball Association (SYBA) Selects U12 Atom boys’ basketball team convincingly captured the tournament championship at the Orillia Lakers 11th Annual Boys Basketball tournament Feb. 15-17.

It was the first tournament for the club’s U12 team and first gold-medal finish of the season.

The Selects opened the tournament against the PMBA Magic.

A remarkable offensive effort put the Selects ahead 29-12 at the half.

The second half continued to display the Selects offensive abilities as they cruised to a convincing 59-26 victory. Liam Lapierre, Brennan Lapierre, and Eric Senechal led the Select’s offensive attack with 18, 12 and seven points respectively, while Abraham Soumahoro led a persistent Sudbury defence against PMBA Magic.

In the second game, Sudbury took on the Collingwood Trailblazers.

The Selects' offence continued to impress as they defeated the Trailblazers 59-32. Abraham Soumahoro paced the offence with 16 points followed by 14 points from Liam Lapierre. Sam Cloutier and Eric Huneault rounded out the scoring with six and seven points respectively.

Liam Lapierre disrupted the Trailblazers' offence throughout the game with great ball pressure and hustle.

In the semifinals, the Selects faced off against Huntsville.

The Selects continued their strong play offensively and defensively jumping out to a 36-10 halftime lead. Liam Lapierre led all scorers with 23 points.

The Selects advanced to the final with an impressive 61-36 win.

In the final, the Selects squared off against the Collingwood Trailblazers.

Once again, the Selects' relentless defence and strong offensive play led the Selects to their first tournament gold-medal win, with a final score of 53-28.

Liam Lapierre led the Selects in scoring with 18 points followed by Brennan Lapierre with 11 points. Strong defensive play by Eric Senechal and Jordan Maguire led to many offensive opportunities.
