There will be plenty of new faces in the line-up for the Cambrian College Golden Shield in 2018-19.
Cambrian’s Athletics Department announced 20 new athletes have signed on to suit up for the Golden Shield – seven in women’s volleyball, three in men’s volleyball, five in men’s soccer, four in women’s soccer, and one in women’s cross-country running.
Twelve of the Golden Shield’s newest players are from the Greater Sudbury area, with eight players coming to Sudbury from across the province, including Sault Ste. Marie, Garden River First Nation, Thunder Bay, New Liskeard, Muskoka, Burlington, Acton, and Guelph.
“With new additions of speed, strength, discipline and skill from across the province, Cambrian is set to make its mark on the varsity sports landscape,” said Tim Yu, Manager of Athletics at Cambrian College.
“It’s only June and already we’re getting excited to hit the courts, track, pitch and everywhere else to represent Cambrian College.”
The Golden Shield men’s and women’s soccer teams begin their season with home games Sept. 8 and 9 against Humber and Sheridan. The cross-country season begins Sept. 15 with the Fanshawe College Invitational in London, Ontario.
The Golden Shield men’s and women’s volleyball squads begin their seasons on the road, Sept. 29 and 30 at Fanshawe.
This year, Cambrian College is hosting the women’s provincial volleyball championships, Feb. 22-24.
The Golden Shield men’s and women’s soccer teams are looking to add quality players to their squads for the upcoming fall season.
