Golf challenge raises money for cancer care

More than $15,000 was raised Aug. 13 at the first annual Miners for Cancer Golf Challenge with the money going towards cancer research, patient care and treatment equipment at the Regional cancer Centre in Sudbury.

More than $15,000 was raised Aug. 13 at the first annual Miners for Cancer Golf Challenge with the money going towards cancer research, patient care and treatment equipment at the Regional cancer Centre in Sudbury.

The group Miners for Cancer is made up of employees from Inco Ltd. and Sandvik. Together they've raised more than $200,000 for cancer research and patient care.

"This golf challenge is our newest event added on to our other sporting events, the Miners for Cancer baseball and hockey (challeneges)," said committee member Scott Fahey in a press release.
