Every single athlete representing Sudbury GymZone Gymnastics had reason to be proud, as the women’s artistic crew returned earlier this month from their third and final qualifier in Ottawa.

Terra Davidson, the team's coach, provided a run down of how the athletes performed.

Emma Shea (Level 6 – Age 13) earned gold on vault, fourth on floor, seventh on all-around aggregate.

“Emma showed an amazing amount of mental toughness, competing sick and with a pulled hamstring,” said Davidson.

She won vault for the second straight meet, and posted her best all-around score of the season.

Mallorie Alexander (Level 6 – Age 14/15) won bronze on bars, and finished tenth on the all-around aggregate. Alexander finished third on bars, while posting her best bar score of the season.

Brielle Charlebois (Level 6 – Age 14/15) took silver on floor and came 15th on the all-around aggregate. Charlebois executed her best floor routine of the season, earning a new PB score of 9.50 and finishing second in a very tough field.

Patricia Hunt (Level 6 – Age 16+) was solid across all elements, garnering a silver medal on both beam and floor, finishing sixth in the vault, 8th on bars, and 5th in the all-around aggregate.

Marisol Toupin (Level 7 – Age 12) took gold on vault, bronze on floor and in the all-around aggregate. Yet it was on the beam where Toupin enjoyed the greatest sense of accomplishment, connecting her acro series for the first time this year, posting a personal best on this apparatus, and placing fourth. Her all-around aggregate score also set a new standard for Toupin.

Rachel Uguccioni (Level 7 Age 12) earned a silver on vault and on the all-around aggregate, and bronze on beam.
“Rachel was a superstar at this qualifier,” said Davidson. “She displayed confident and consistent routines on each apparatus.”

Uguccioni was rewarded with personal best scores on both the beam, as well as her all-around aggregate total

Brooklyn Lavallee (Level 7 Age 14/15) highlighted her performance with a silver medal showing on her floor routine. Lavallee placed 11th in the all-around aggregate.

Nikka Valentim (Level 8 Age 14/15), freshly returned from an injury that caused her to miss the second qualifier, barely missed a beat, walking away with a silver on beam, bronze in the all-around aggregate, and fourth place on both bars and floor.

Kayla Folz (Level 10 Age 15+) continues to inch ever closer to her goal of obtaining an NCAA scholarship. Folz continued her streak of placing at the top of the podium at every qualifier this season. Her five-medal haul – gold on vault, floor and AA; silver on bars and beam – leaves her in great shape heading to provincials. Folz looks to qualify for nationals, taking place in Edmonton at the end of May.
