Leagues across the entire SDSSAA District have been silent
for over a week as students finish first semester exams. Come
Monday, however, the heat will be turned up at local venues as
teams suit up again.
Here's a quick look at some big matches for fans to keep an eye
on for early next week.
Midget boys' basketball
The top two teams in the midget boys' loop - Lockerby and
Lo-Ellen - get down and dirty for another heated match up on
Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Lockerby. Game time is 5 pm.
It could be a preview of the city championship. Both teams own
records of 6-1, with the losses coming against one another.
Both teams have also scored over 300+ points each, so there
should be plenty of offensive fireworks. Key players for
Lockerby are Devin Cardinal and Lyndon Moorhouse who have 52
and 47 points respectively in their first six games. For
Lo-Ellen, Lindsay Vanderbeck and Owen Vipond lead the way with
61 and 54 points scored in their first seven games.
Girls' hockey
A meeting of two of the best players in the senior girls'
Division II league occurs on Thursday, Feb. 8 as Champlain
faces off against Confederation at the Chelmsford Arena. Game
time is 3:30 pm. Confederation features the league's top
scorer, Jessica Schroeder, who has 46 points in 10 games, while
Champlain has the league's third leading scorer in Julie
Hebert, who has 36 points.
Girls' volleyball
The senior girls' Division I league features several key
contests next week as the top three teams are all in action
looking for their seventh win of the year. Marymount (6-0)
hosts Champlain on Monday, Feb 5 at 6:30 pm. Lockerby (6-1)
travels to Lasalle on Feb. 5 for a 7:30 pm match up. As well,
Confederation (6-1) goes to Lo-Ellen on Tuesday, Feb. 6 for a
6:30 pm game.
