The Kickin' It On The Moraine soccer tournament definitely lived up to its name, providing a pair of local teams with some very solid competition, at the event hosted by the Oak Ridges Soccer Club in Richmond Hill.

While both Sudbury entries remained right in the mix through to the playoff rounds, it would be the GSSC (Greater Sudbury Soccer Club) U14 Impact Girls who would work their way to the final, edged 1-0 by the North York Cosmos in the gold medal encounter.

The U14 Impact opened their schedule against the very same opponent, blanked 3-0, before putting together a three-game winning streak to close out round robin play with victories over the host Oak Ridges Knights (5-1), the Woodbridge Strikers (4-2) and North Durham United (2-0).

The silver medal winning team featured a roster of Emily Binks, Michela Bussolaro, Jayda Cacciotti, Grace Cranston, Nora Dzuirban, Tessa Favero, Lauren Fearn, Jenna Lachance, Breighan Love, Emily MacIsaac, Kyra Mallory, Maeve McNamara, Kristen Mrozewski, Mackenzie Roberts, Myla Weiman and coaches Matt Binks and Chris Binks at the helm.

Meanwhile, the GSSC Impact U13 Girls competed in a four-team division, posting a record of 1-2 before being eliminated with a 1-1 (4-3) loss on penalty kicks in a hotly contested semi-final matchup.

The Sudbury girls overcame early setbacks at the hands of both the Oak Ridges Knights (1-3) and Aurora FC (0-1), salvaging a 1-0 win over Newmarket United in order to secure third place and a rematch with the hometown crew.

Taking the favourites to a game deciding shootout was the Impact team of Kaja Beljo, Mia Binks, Sydney Coe, Isabelle Cotnoir, Emma Coutu, Sophie Démoré, Kylee Hitchen, Elizabeth Laberge, Kiana Levac, Kiara Levac, Alexie Olivier, Julia Prosperi, Andrée Thibeault, Avery Tullio, Arijana Tuttle, as well as the same coaches as the U14 squad, in the form of the Binks brothers.
