The Kal Tire Jr. Wolves gave it a valiant effort but lost game one of their best of seven quarter-final series with the Abitibi Eskimos by a score of 7-6 in double-overtime.

The Jr. Wolves trailed 2-0 after the first period, but took a 4-3 lead after two periods of play. The Jr. Wolves led 6-5, but former Jr. Wolves forward Jesse Howg scored with just over a minute to play to send the game into overtime.

The Jr. Wolves outshot Abitibi in overtime but could not score the game winner. Jean-Barnard Gagnon scored for Abitibi at the 11:55 mark of the second overtime period.

Zach McGillis scored a hat-trick for the Jr. Wolves, while veterans Chris Kangas and Chris Pontes scored singles. Joey Delwo took the loss in goal for the Jr. Wolves. The Wolves outshot Abitibi 47-43.

The Kal Tire Jr. Wolves will regroup after the tough loss and prepare for game two of the series on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at the Garson Arena. Tim Hortons will be providing Cheer Sticks to everyone attending the contest.
