Laurentian University cross-country runner star Alicia Kaye has qualified for the World Triathlon Championships, to be held in September in Japan.

Kaye, who hails from Pickering, has been dominating triathlon events all summer with numerous victories and solid finishes.

In late July, Kaye finished fourth at the ITU Caledon Pan American Cup, which qualified her for the Canadian Under-23 National Team.

"I am very excited about this result and having the chance to compete at the World Championships," said Kaye in a news release. "This has been a personal goal all season and I am thrilled I could achieve it."

To help subsidize Kaye's trip to Japan for the World Championships, FitFriends has organized the Alicia "5" Kaye trail run, which will take place Sunday, Aug. 28 in Fielding Park.

Registration is $10 and it includes a race kit.

Interested runners can register at www.runningroom.com or www.sudburyrocks.ca

People can also drop into the Running Room, located at 117-1984 Regent Street and register in person.
