Two Laurentian Lady Vees basketball players were recognized among the top in the league on the list of OUA 2009-10 women's basketball all-stars for the east division.
Katie Goggins and Darrah Bumstead were honoured as second team all-stars.
Goggins, a fourth year co-captain and the Lady Vees floor general had her best season to date, a press release stated. The former OUA rookie of the year and member of the CIS all-rookie team in 2006-07, picked up her first nod as an all-star.
Goggins led the Lady Vees in many crucial categories, including minutes per game (33.8), free-throw percentage (74.8 per cent), assists (77), and steals (56). Complimenting those numbers were her points per game (11) and rebounds per game (7) from the point guard position. Those numbers placed her third on the team in both categories. She played in all 22 regular season games.
Bumstead, also a co-captain of the Lady Vees, finished off her career in the blue and gold by claiming her second OUA east second team all-star award. She was also named in 2008-09.
Bumstead, who battled injuries all season long, played in 19 games. She led the team in rebounding (10.8 per game), placing her second overall in the OUA. Bumstead was also second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game and shooting 49.7 per cent from the floor. She led the team in blocks (21). Bumstead also surpassed two career milestones in her final year, scoring more than 1,000 points while grabbing more than 800 rebounds.
While Bumstead's university career is over, Goggins will look ahead to the 2010-11 year.
