Organizers for the Little Native Hockey
League (Little NHL) Tournament are looking for volunteers to
help make the thirty-fifth annual tournament a success.
Volunteers are needed to take money and tag
fans at the door, to sell merchandise and work security
detail.
Don't be fooled by the security title,
said Stephanie Cundari, marketing officer for Sudbury Tourism.
The job actually involves going around to check the different
locker rooms after teams have left.
Cundari said the volunteer jobs would be
suitable for high school students looking to earn some
community service hours towards their diploma, with the
exception of merchandise salesperson, where organizers are
looking for an adult.
Volunteer shifts will be divided into
three-hour increments, and about 100 volunteers will be needed
for the tournament. Arrangements can also be made to have
volunteers work at an arena that is close to home.
Volunteers will receive Little NHL fleece
sweaters, and depending on the duration of the shift, may be
provided with a lunch. Volunteers will also have free admission
to the games and will be invited to a volunteer appreciation
night scheduled after the tournament.
The Little NHL Tournament is returning to
Greater Sudbury for the first time since 2003, and is expected
to draw 120 hockey teams and attract about 5,500 players and
fans from March 12 to 16.
The tournament will occupy nine arenas
throughout the city, and will feature boys and girls hockey
teams from the Tyke to Bantam levels.
