Local skiers do well

The loss of Adanac Ski Hill is not slowing down young downhill racers who continue to represent Sudbury at Northern Ontario Division (NOD) races throughout the northeast.

The loss of Adanac Ski Hill is not slowing down young downhill racers who continue to represent Sudbury at Northern Ontario Division (NOD) races throughout the northeast. At the recent Boréal Cup and NOD race in Timmins, the Greater Sudbury Ski Club accounted for a number of top finishes and an overall second-place standing.

In the slalom race, Katie Bissonette won gold in the women's J-1 (ages 15-16) category.

In the giant slalom race, local skiers won medals in three categories: J-1 women, Corey Bouffard won gold; Katie Bissonette; won silver; J1 men, Jason Rinneard won silver, Jonathan Robinson won bronze; and in the K-2 men (ages 13-14), Jordan Thompson placed third.

"When the city closed Adanac, the club went on life support. It's a smaller club now but this last race has given us momentum and we're committed to keeping it going until the city gets Adanac up and running, says ski club president Lise Lambert.
