Macdonald Cartier finished fourth in A OFSAA
Four local high school soccer teams earned Greater Sudbury plenty of respect this week at OFSAA championships across Ontario.
The Lockerby senior girls' squad competed in the AAA OFSAA championship in Hamilton and came away with the silver medal.
The Vikings went 3-0-1 in the round robin, outscoring the opposition 12-4. They finished first in Pool A with 10 points.
In the quarter-final and semi-final matches, Lockerby defeated Regina Mundi College and Northern (Sarnia) respectively.
In the gold medal game, Lockerby came up just short, falling 3-0 to London Central.
The Macdonald Cartier Pantheres girls' team competed in the A OFSAA championship in Timmins and walked away with the antique bronze medal for coming in fourth place overall.
The Pantheres went 2-1 in the round robin and finished second in Pool A.
In the quarter-final game, Macdonald Cartier dumped Ashbury 2-0. In the semi-final game, the Pantheres lost 6-1 to Trinity College.
The Pantheres fought valiantly in the bronze-medal game but, like the Lockerby girls, fell just short of a victory as they lost 6-5 to Charlottenburgh-Lancaster, 6-5 in overtime.
The Pantheres scored 18 goals at the A OFSAA championship with Cloe Lacasse and Karolyne Blain supplying eight goals each. Natalie St. Laurent scored the two other goals for the Pantheres.
In other OFSAA action:
The St. Benedict Bears senior boys' team went to
Chatham-Kent for the A OFSAA championship. The Bears went 2-1
in the round robin and placed second in Pool D.
St. Benedict was knocked out of medal contention in the
quarter-final match after losing 4-3 to Guido de Bres in a
shoot-out.
The Lockerby Vikings senior boys' squad went to Thunder Bay for the AAA OFSAA championship. The Vikings met tough competition as they went 0-4 in the round robin, finishing fourth in Pool C and failing to advance to the medal round.
