Laurentian Athletics has announced swimmers Ryan Smith and Kyleigh Commito as the Keg Steakhouse and Bar Athletes of the Week for Oct. 9 to 15.
Rookie swimmer Commito had three first place finishes and two
second place finishes against the Brock Badgers and perennial
powerhouses Western and Guelph. On Saturday against Western,
Commito was first in the 200-metre freestyle in 2:09.78 and
second in the 50-m freestyle in 28.89. On Sunday, against Brock
and Guelph, she finished first in the 200 and 400-m freestyle
in 2:11.57 and 4:31.78 respectively, while finishing second in
the 100-m butterfly in 1:07.10.
Also over the weekend, fifth year swimmer Smith continued his drive to defend his OUA title with four first place finishes and one second place finish against Brock and perennial powerhouses Western and Guelph. On Saturday against Western, Smith finished first in the 400-m individual medley in a time of 2:14.61 and second in the 200-m breaststroke in 2:30.50.  On Sunday, he followed that up with first place finishes in the 200-m individual medley, 100-m breaststroke and 100-m backstroke in 2:14.61, 1:10.29 and 1:00.85 respectively.
