The second half of the regular season gets
under way this weekend for the Lady Vees and Voyageurs
basketball teams as they travel to southern Ontario to play the
Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs.
Tonight, the Lady Vees, who finished the
first half of the season with a 6-3 record and sit second in
the OUA East Division, will take to the court against the
Lancers who finished their first half with 3-7 record.
The Lady Vees will look to continue their
winning ways, but will have to control fifth year Lancer
transfer student Marsha Murdock and fourth year players Tatiana
Danelon and Stacey Newbigging.
On Saturday, the Vees will face a strong
Mustangs team who finished with a 7-3 record to open the
season, and are looking to carry on their winning ways after a
long Christmas break. The Lady Vees will need to stay on their
toes and play top defense to contain a host of strong Mustangs
players.
Fourth year players Paula Romkey, Cheryl
Atkinson and rookie Bess Lennox will lead the offensive charge
and OUA West Defensive Player of the Year Julie Lamparski will
take charge of the defensive end of the court.
For the Voyageurs, who finished 3-6 in their
first half of the season, their goal will be to get back into
the win column with strong performances this weekend.
Tonight, the Lancers (4-5) will be tough
competition as they are led by third-year players Kevin
Kloostra and Hoy Monk, and fifth-year player Trevor Boose. All
three of these players can blow open a game as they are all
capable of scoring high numbers. The Voyageurs will need to
stay on their game plan and play disciplined basketball to come
away with a win.
The Men in Purple have had a rough start to
their campaign finishing 1-7 to open the season. These two
teams met in the Voyageur Invitational back in October and
although the Voyageurs walked away with a convincing 71-53 win
they are sure not to take the Mustangs lightly.
With a young squad, the Mustangs rely on
first- and second-year players to lead the charge. The team's
led by a trio of Hamilton players James
Harrison, Adam Ruickbie and 2004-2005 OUA
Rookie of the Year Matt Curtis.
The key for the Voyageurs will be to play a
strong 40 minutes and keep the pressure on a much younger and
less experienced Mustangs team.
Tonight's action will take place at the
University of Windsor with tip off set for 6 pm (women) and 8
pm (men). Action on Saturday, will take place at Alumni Hall at
Western with tip off at 2 pm (women) and 4 pm (men).
