At the age of 20, Ryan Sauve died Oct. 4 after an 11-month battle with cancer. The tournament was organized by his friends and will be held at the Sudbury Secondary School B gym on Saturday, Nov. 12.

The event features a three-on-three format and costs $50 to register. (Interested teams can pick up registration forms at the YMCA front desk, by calling 561-7507 or e-mailing [email protected]). The minimum entry age is 16.

Proceeds will be divided equally between the Northern Ontario Families with Children who have Cancer (NOFCC) and the Sauve family.

"The tournament…Is to celebrate Ryan's life and everything he enjoyed," organizer and friend Christian Robertson said. "It hits home because the money raised goes directly to helping the people in this community. I think Ryan would be proud."
